21.09.2026 - Anniversary: 5 Years ELLIS Unit Stuttgart

Stuttgart, Germany – The ELLIS Unit Stuttgart, part of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), marks its fifth anniversary this year. Since its inception, the ELLIS Unit Stuttgart has played a key role in shaping the future of AI research, fostering collaboration between academia and industry to develop next-generation intelligent systems.

With its four main research areas focusing on Interactive Intelligent Systems, Natural and Programming Language Processing, Learning Theory and Robot Learning, the ELLIS Unit Stuttgart has contributed to breakthroughs in areas like explainable AI, reinforcement learning, and human-robot interaction. The unit’s interdisciplinary approach brings together researchers from the University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems to tackle real-world challenges.

As the ELLIS Unit Stuttgart looks ahead, it wants to expand its research and integrate the disciplines more closely. Another key goal for the future is to expand collaboration within the network, i. e. through summer or winter Schools or to expand the highly successful Distinguished Lecture Series to include tutorials specifically for students and early-career reasearchers.
